Tonight's homework is pages 14 and 15 in the book doing exercises 16 and 18 in the first section of your notebook. Most bookwork for homework will go in the first section unless you are told something different. Classwork from the book also goes in the first section.
Today we started conjugating the verb SER with various subject pronouns. Conjugation and infinitives are new concepts for the students, but by the time this year is over, they will all be pros at it. We will be doing listening activities tomorrow along with some cultural notes and perhaps starting time.
Tomorrow night's homework will probably be a worksheet from pages five and six.

homework for 9-28-10
Buenas Tardes,
This week we will be using our new books in class and at home. Tonight's homework is from pages 10, 11, and 12 and we will be doing exercises 9, 11, and 13 in the first section of your notebooks.
This week we will be focusing on where the Hispanic capitals and countries are, learning interesting facts about the culture, doing some listening exercises with the tapes, working with partners, learning how to conjugate verbs, and doing some work with time. The new books need to be covered ASAP because they are very expensive! thank you in advance for your cooperation. We have been staying for extra help and make up work on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesday is also a possibility, however, Thursday is not good for me because I teach after school Spanish. If there are any questions or problems, feel free to email me at deborah.schneider@tyngsboroughps.org.
Progress reports are coming home this Friday October 1st. If your child receives a questionable report, it is probably because they have been out sick and owe me make up work. Please have them stay to get caught up. Otherwise, things are going very well and I am very pleased with the level of consistent homework and studying for quizzes.

homework for 23-9 numbers worksheet/study for the numbers quiz
Buenas tardes,
We will be having a quiz on numbers 0-30 tomorrow after taking a quiz on the expressions today. All students presented oral dialogs in front of the class with a partner and called up a third "victima" to join in the fun. They all did very well and we had some interesting conversations! We will be doing more dialogs and partner work in the coming weeks ahead. I finally received our new text books and distributed them today. It is very important that everyone covers their new books and writes their name on the inside cover so that if it is misplaced, we will know whose it is. The students seem excited to receive their books.
We have also been brainstorming Hispanic countries and captials, saying where you are from, and will finish up the week learning about telephone numbers, email addresses, and just starting to tell time. There is so much to learn. There is no homework this weekend, so enjoy!

Homework for 9-21 pages 1 and 2 of the worksheet
Buenos dias a todos,
We have started the dialogs in class and the students are doing wonderfully! We will do a few each day this week until everyone has had a chance to perform. We will be having two quizzes this week- one on the greetings, goodbyes, and "how are you" vocabulary that we have been practicing in class with the dialogs on Thursday 9-23 and one on the numbers 0 to 30 on Friday 9-24. Students do need to know how to spell the numbers. We have been and will be practicing with our homework so it is important that the students keep up with their studies. Week of el veinte de septiembre- 20/9/2010
Buenas noches a todos, (Good evening to everyone)
Hello parents! If you did not come to open house last week, I sent home an information packet with the students for you to look at. It explains the expectations of the class, the grading policy, homework policy and makeup policy for my clase de espanol. (Spanish class) There are also some study tips for your students about how to practice and study for a foreign language. I hope you will find it useful.
Last week we had a quiz on the alphabet and most students did very well. We also played "PONGA" which is Spanish bingo, learned some new goodbyes and asking about people in the class, talked about holidays in September and compared cultures, learned some animal vocabulary and how words are masculine or feminine and say the alphabet song for the last time.We have been using our euros in class and the students have been earning them by participating and completing their homework. Ask your child how many they have and what we are using them for.
This week we will be learning more numbers up to 100, Hispanic countries and their capitals, how to say where you are from, telling time, practicing dialogs with 2 or 3 partners, having a quiz on the numbers (probably Thursday or Friday), learning about the verb "to be" and how it is used with different pronouns and singing some more songs. Open House 9-15-2010
Thank you to all the parents who stopped by for open house last night. Packets about expectations for Spanish class were handed out to the parents. For parents who were not able to attend, I will be sending home a packet with your child by Friday of this week.
Classes are going well and the students seem to be catching on to Spanish quite well. I hope everyone is enjoying it. We have been speaking, listening, reading, and writing as much as possible during the class. As we learn more, there will be more group and partner activities. There will be no homework this Thursday on 9-16 due to Yom Kippur. Thank you.
