Buenas tardes a todos,

Work for the week of April 30, 2012

Haven't checked in for a while due to vacation and a change in the blog format. We have now started the family chapter- chapter 5 in the book. We have learned the vocabulary for the family members, new adjectives to describe our families, new stem changing verbs and their conjugations, and possessive pronouns. This week we will be focusing on conjugating and using the verbs in class and the possessive pronouns. We will be having a quiz on Wednesday, May 2 on these items.

Homework for this week is:
lunes noche: May calendar and page 43 in the old packet. Last page to complete it.
martes noche: non-packet sheets pages 85 and 64. Study for quiz
miercoles noche: New vocab list about the house pages 170 for the house and page 171 for new places to go. This is 2 separate vocab lists.
jueves noche: new packet- pages 45 and 55 - whole page.

We will also be having a new family project that will be starting soon. The first part was sent home as a rough draft about a family tree. You need to find out your family information. The next rough draft will be an actual family tree, then a big poster, an essay, and an oral presentation. The last three are each worth one test grade. A rubric and more info will be forth coming. It's almost the end of the year- hang in there. There will be many interruptions so we need to do the best we can with our full attention. Good Luck!

Work for the week of March 19, 2012

Buenos dias a todos,

This week in Spanish we will be learning more about and reviewing "er" and "ir" verbs,   using and reviewing the "tener" expressions for hunger, thirst, to be in a hurry, have to do something, age, and feeling like doing something. We will also be studying irregular "er" and "ir" verbs that only change in the "yo" form of the verb.  "Ir a" expressions give us the future tense and we do not have to conjugate after the verb "ir". We will also be practicing invitations, acceptances, and refusals of invitations so that means there will be new expressions for those ideas, but also some review of old expressions.  We will be having a test this Friday 3-23 before we go to Washington on Chapter 4. It will include all of the above, plus the classes in a school places to go in a school, schedules, time, school supplies, adverbs of time like first, after, before, later, finally, early, late, this week, this weekend, day after tomorrow, next week, tomorrow, the days of the week, in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, new verbs like to arrive, to return, to take a test, to open, to interrupt, to attend, to come, to go out, to eat, to drink, to put, to bring, to see, to know a fact, to do. Also how much, a few, many or a lot, indefinite articles such as a, an and some and cultural notes about Costa Rica.

The year is flying by so fast and we are still learning and studying so that we will be prepared for high school.  This week we also have MCAS on Wednesday and Thursday so we will have shorten schedule of classes but still continuing to review. There will be no homework on the nights before the testing.

lunes noche: packet pg 37 ex 16, page 46 ex 21 and 22, page 47 ex 23.
martes noche: no tarea
miércoles noche: no tarea
jueves noche: pg 45 ex 19, pg 48 ex 25, 26 and a separate vocabulary review sheet.

We will be staying after school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week for extra help and retakes/makeups. Buena Suerte-Good luck

Work for the week of March 12, 2012

Buenas tardes a todos,

This week we are starting  a new section of the chapter with more classrooms, more adverbs of time, invitations, acceptances, and refusals and a continuation of "to have" expressions, and the verbs "to come", "to go", and we will be introducing more "er" and "ir" verbs and how to conjugate them. The students already know the regular conjugations, but we will be studying some irregular verbs also.

On another note, Señorita Carvalho will be observed this week by her profesor de español from Rivier College in Nashua as part of her student teaching experience. The students seems to like her and I feel that she is doing a wonderful job with them! I will be out Wednesday and Thursday of this week because my husband is having major surgery and I need to be in Boston both days and perhaps Friday too. Señorita will take over the class, now that her profesor  has observed her to do so.

Homework for this week will be:
lunes noche:  make a list of places to go in a school from pages 132 and 133 in your 3rd section under the heading "Los Lugares" which you already have started. Then, in section 2, put the adverbs of time from pages 132 and 133 in there and add to them the list you have already started.
martes noche: new packet- page 36 ex 15, page 43 ex 14
miércoles noche: pagina 35 ejercicio 12, pagina 43 ejercicios 15 y16
jueves noche: pagina 40 ejercicio 22, pagina 44 ej 17, pagina 45 ej 20

We are on a push to finish up chapter 5 in our books before the end of the year. We are now finishing up Chapter 4. Our test for chapter 4 will be Friday of next week (March 23), because the following week will be going to Washington on Tuesday through Friday, the 27th thru the 30th. After that there will be 3 technology days the week of April 2nd, one full week after that and then we have April vacation. Time is running short because in between we have  5 MCAS shorten days and before you know it, it will be over. Thank you for your understanding if I have to give weekend homework to catch up. ¡Gracias!

Buenas noches a todos,

We are now finishing up chapter 3 and hopefully feel fairly comfortable with the new vocabulary, conjugating " ar" verbs, the verb to go, the verb to want, the verb to play a sport and adverbs of time.  We had a quiz and a chapter last week which we will be getting back this week before vacation. This week we will be working on writing and performing dialogs in front of the class, playing Valentine's Bingo, watching a video on chapter 3 with the characters in the serial story that we have been following, and working in groups and partners. ¡Buenas tardes a todos!

We have been continuing our studies of "AR" verbs and their conjugations, weather expressions, adverbs of time, the verbs "to go =IR", the verb "to want = QUERER", the verb "to play a sport =JUGAR", and the verb "to like = GUSTAR". We have also been focusing on subject pronouns, places to go,  the contractions "AL" and "DE", and other nouns that go with the action verbs. We have been busy working in groups, partners and doing whole class activities to use our language skills. The children are really coming along.  We are having another quiz this week on Wednesday the 8th and will have more writing of sentences, multiple choice, and fill in the blank. There will be a CHAPTER 3 TEST on Friday the 10th with all of the above mentioned items on it. We will be reviewing all week with more partner and group activities with verb games, connect 4 and more writing. We will also be doing a Valentine's calendar.

This week we will be staying Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for extra help and practice. If you need to make up or retake quizzes, this is the time to do it! I cannot stay this Thursday due to another commitment, however, perhaps Señorita Carvalho will be able to if a student is in need of help.

Homework for this week will be:

lunes noche: Valentine's calendar with 8 colored items about love and Spanish labels and numbers Study
martes noche: Pagina 58 in the paquete  we are finishing off. Do both parts. I'm taking the essay. Study.
miercoles noche: Worksheet on pronouns and conjugations that I will give to you. Study.
jueves noche: Paginas 108 and 109 in the book Exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. This is the chapter 3 review.
viernes noche: nada
STUDY!

There will be an ELA MCAS practice tomorrow until 10:00 so there will be shorten classes. We have been noticing that too many students are not completing their homework or class work assignments. I have been asking more students to stay to catch up. If you are behind, you will be staying. Do the work!

Preview next week: video on chapter 3, dialogs and presentation of dialogs with partners, and more "ar" verb practice before we get to  "ER" and "IR" verbs. ¡Qué divertido!

Hasta luego,  Señora Schneider y Señorita Carvalho
