Buenas Noches a todos,
After having our first chapter test last week (Chapter 1), we are now moving on to chapter 2 and will be studying and using adjectives, telling ages, and saying what we like or dislike. We will be watching a video that is used with the chapters in the book after we preview it by reading the dialog in the book. We will also be discussing the Day of the Dead holiday which is celebrated in Mexico for three days from October 31 and November 1st and 2nd. It is very different from Halloween in many ways as it celebrates family and ancestors that have passed away. I will be having the students bring in small items that represent a loved one, animal, or famous movie star that has passed away. These items will be due on Monday for discussion in class.
Homework this week will be:
Monday night: vocabulary list from pages 44 and 45. Put in section 3 using the five column method.
Tuesday night: new packet- pages 11 and 13v.
Wednesday night:: pages 16 and 17
Thursday night: page 14 exercises 3 and 5, page 15 exercise 6, page 18 exercise 14.
Friday night: bring in a small item from a person or animal that has passed away for Monday.
Hasta luego, Senora Schneider

Information for the week of October 17, 2011
Buenas noches a todos,
This week we will be reviewing for a major test on Wednesday and Thursday on Chapter 1. It will be on all the basic expressions that we have been studying such as what's your name, how are you, where are you from, what's the date, what day is it, plus all the responses, days of the week, time, months, seasons, capitals and countries, facts about Spain, numbers, phone numbers, emails, the verb to be (SER), pronouns, and how to match the pronouns with the correct verb.
Today, we finished a quiz from last Thursday because there were no classes on Friday due to Spirit Day. Tomorrow, there is a half day to review again, Half of Wednesday will be review, then we will start the test with the listening exercises and a few parts of the test. We will finish on Thursday and clean up any loose ends we need to do. Friday, I will be at a funeral for my mother-in-law, so the students will be doing a mini project on the Euro and will pass it in at the end of the class. With all the controversy about the European economy, it will be a timely lesson to understand the reasons why the Euro was introduced to their economy.
Homework this week will be:
Monday night: pages 4a and 12v in the packet. This will finish off this packet for this chapter.
Tuesday night: vocabulary review sheet - Spanish to English-do the whole sheet.
Wednesday night: pages 32 and 33 in the book, exercises 1 thru 6 for a chapter review. Put in section 1
Thursday night: Read article on Euros that will be provided for you.
Friday night: none
Next week: Readings and Video on Chapter one, starting chapter 2, discussion about Day of the Dead.
Students will be asked to bring in items that represent activities and likes of a deceased person or pet of their choice. More details to follow later.
Adios for now, Senora Schneider

Revisions for Friday October 7, 2011
Hola Clases,
We have had a good week this week, doing our homework, learning new concepts about time, telephones, and emails. However, we still need a bit more work on telling time and becoming more comfortable with it. So, there will not be a quiz tomorrow on these topics because I will be moving it to Thursday October 13th More practice is needed to make sure everyone is understanding how to do conversational time. We still are on for the homework that is posted for tonight- 6a and 8v. Buena suerte (Good Luck) !
No homework this weekend except to study if you are having trouble.
I cannot stay next Tuesday the 11th, but I should be available on Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th for extra help and make ups. Progress reports go home on Friday the 14th.
